I still <3 punk rock

I've started listening to Hardcore through Punk Rock. Bands like NOFX, Bad Religion, Offspring and Green Day opened a lot of doors for me. I used to search relentlessly for new bands and would try and get money to then exchenge it into dollars so I could order some cds from fat wreck chords. Anyway, one of the bands I loved back in 1999/2000 was Good Riddance. They really influenced me into becoming vegetarian/vegan with their song Waste. For me "Ballads from the Revolution" was the perfect record. It blended flawlessly the melodic punk rock tunes I was accostumed to listening with more aggressive ones. I used to listen to that record non-stop. So anyway, GR always held a special place in my heart even though I must confess I didn't pay much attention to their latter records. I was a bit bummed out when they announced they were going to call it quits. I now regret not seeing them when they played Portugal, oh well who cares. All this to say I got their last record in the mail today and it looks like this:

It's the recording of their last show and it's so great. It comes as a Double LP and each record is in a different color. That's cool right? But on top of that it comes with an awesome book with a whole bunch of photos and a bio of the band. It makes it such a special release. Oh and better yet, it's a limited edition of 1100 and mine is #131.

And together with this cool GR record came the new Lagwagon one. Since I picked up Joey Cape's solo Record I figured I'd pick up the new Lagwagon record too. For me they've always been this cool punk rock band that I used to listen to but never really got 100% into them. I mean I know more or less all their records but I can't say I really have a favourite song. They're all just cool to listen to and I've been enjoying more and more the latter Lagwagon records than their first. Too bad this one isn't colored as well but it's still cool.

  1. I've always loved Good Riddance, and are one of the few bands on Fat Wreck Chords that I really got into. For one reason or another I never picked up their last album, and I generally yawn over live records, but the packaging on this one looks cool enough that I may have to pick it up.
